Seasonal Student Issues

Crusader Link logo--b,b&w
There is a seasonal ebb and flow when it comes to student issues. Here are a few things your student may be experiencing this fall:

November:
  • Realization that college life may not be as perfect as he/she were led to believe.
  • Realizing how difficult college academics can be after receiving mid-term grades.
  • Feeling for home with the holidays quickly approaching.
  • Relationship conflicts and confusion as student sees different types of relationships and may get involved with someone.
  • Tiredness and exhaustion from the semester and activities that he/she may be involved in.

Helping your Student this Month:

  • Encourage him/her to stick it out until the end of the semester.
  • Suggest ways to incorporate physical activity into their schedule.
  • Have positive, open, and encouraging conversations.

Kerusso Dayz: Community MCC Logo_blue

October 16 & 17 over 130 students, faculty, and staff went into the Manhattan community and served a variety of local ministries and organizations. Students did not have classes for two days so they could participate in Kerusso Dayz: Community and make an impact on the community that helps MCC out throughout the year.

The Kerusso Dayz ministries is coordinated and organized through the Student Development Office each year. The purpose of Kerusso Dayz is "to proclaim God's love to His people" no matter the task. There are three different Kerusso Dayz opportunities that students can participate in each year: Kerusso Dayz: Community, Kerusso Dayz, and Kerusso Dayz: International.

Kerusso Dayz will be during Spring Break and students will have four different opportunities to travel either to Galveston, Texas, Joplin, Missouri, Chicago, Illinois or Rocky Point, Mexico. Student will have to apply for the trip they wish to participate in and will raise funds through support letters.

Kerusso Dayz: International will be after school is finished in May and the Student Development Office is working on a trip to Honduras.  Again students will have to apply for this trip and raise funds through support letters.

Details are still be finalized for the spring break and international trips but students should know before Christmas break about each opportunity.

Holiday Breaks Crusader Link logo--b,b&w

A few things you need to be aware of as parents, guardians, and family members:
  1. Your student has classes on Monday, November 24 & Tuesday, November 25. If your student does not attend classes on these days, many of the professors will count the absences as unexcused.
  2. There are no classes November 26-28 for Thanksgiving Break.
  3. Although you may be hoping for a relaxing Thanksgiving holiday with your student, realize that this is a VERY stressful time for him/her. There are many last minute assignments, papers and exams due right after Thanksgiving break with finals starting on December 15. Give them space a lot of understanding.
  4. Finals are December 15-18. The residence halls will close on Friday, December 19 at 5:00 p.m.
  5. The residence halls will open for the spring semester on Sunday, January 11 at 1:00 p.m.
