Job Description: The Worthington Christian Church is a growing congregation in need of an Associate Minister of Family Life and Youth to help in the overall ministry and work.
Qualifications: The Associate Minister is to be a Christian leader. He should exemplify the qualifications for church leadership found in I Timothy and Titus. He must strive in word and deed to be a worthy example in Christian living, avoiding conduct which might endanger the faith of others. The Associate Minister will contribute to the spiritual growth of the church family by personal example and personal spiritual growth and maturity. Not only does he need to feed others spiritually, he needs to be fed spiritually through personal daily disciplines, small group discipling, education, and special events designed to help the minister grow. He must be a person of prayer and vision with Christ-like servant leadership skills. He must be a team player, a self-starter, highly relational, and an excellent communicator.
Responsibilities: This job description is intended to be a guideline rather that a comprehensive description of the minister’s daily activities. It is intended to assign basic areas of responsibility.
General: The Associate Minister will be a spiritual leader and a resource person in the ongoing ministry of the Worthington Christian Church. His primary focus will be upon young families and the youth of the church. He will minister to all members of this Church and to non-members, according to their needs, so that Christ’s Kingdom may grow. He will assist in the teaching ministry of this congregation so that together we may be strengthened in our faith and love for Jesus Christ.
Family Life: The Associate Minister will oversee, coordinate, and expand all ministries related to the family. This includes Children’s ministries, marriage related ministries, parenting and family events, activities, and programs. This position will shepherd the continuity of Christian education from birth through adults.
Youth Groups: The Associate Minister will be responsible for the youth programs. This includes recruiting and training sponsors for each age group and organizing curriculum for the groups as well as following through with ministry safe training. The curriculum should be solid Bible-based and fit with the overall curriculum of the church. The Associate Minister will be available to teach youth groups as needed.
Sunday School: The Associate Minister will be available to teach Sunday school.
Camp: The Associate Minister will be expected to be on faculty at Pine Haven Christian Assembly 1, and maybe 2, weeks each year with our youth.
Church meetings: The Associate Minister is expected to attend the Elder’s, Church Board, and Sunday School meetings and is invited and welcome to attend other meetings of the Church’s business.
Conventions: The Associate Minister will be encouraged to attend the Minnesota Christian Convention, National Youth conventions, seminars, or available training with expenses paid by the Church with Board approval.
Counseling: The Associate Minister will provide limited counseling for families, children/youth, and couples.
Preaching: The Associate Minister will preach as needed. He will preach and teach the Word of God as revealed in the Old and New Testament. This will be done in the absence of the Senior Minister and other occasions.
Visitation: As much as possible, the Associate Minister will make personal contact with young families and youth. He will call on members of the congregation in hospitals, nursing homes, homes, etc., when needed.
Other Minister duties: The Associate will be on call in the absence of the Senior Minister. This may include performing some of the congregation’s weddings and funerals. He must take on other pastoral responsibilities as needed.
The Associate Minister is responsible to report to the Elders and Senior Minister.
Salary is $35,000 - $44,000.
