Men's Soccer Wins 16th Consecutive Regional Championship

Seniors Caleb and Brandon celebrate MCC regional championship

The men’s soccer team won their sixteenth consecutive Regional Championship on Saturday by defeating Grace University 4-0.  MCC opened the scoring in the 40th minute after freshman forward Matthew Saathoff side footed the ball into the net from a Sam Cha assist. Freshman midfielder Alex Blechle put MCC 2-0 ahead in the 51st minute after his shot took a slight deflection to beat Grace’s keeper. Saathoff later scored a double in the 78 and 85 minute, with senior defender Caleb Veer assisting with Saathoff’s hattrick to end the game 4-0. 

This streak of Regional Championships is the longest in the NCCAA II for any men’s sport.  Matthew Jump was named MVP of the Region, while Brandon Branscom, David Krigbaum & Caleb Veer were named 1st Team All-Region and Dr. Rick Wright was named Region Coach of the Year.

The men will be headed to the National Tournament in Kissimmee, FL November 13-16.
