Belton, MO. – On a hot windy day, Manhattan Christian College men's soccer team traveled to Belton, MO to take on Calvary Bible College (Warriors). On a field that is just passed regulation size, MCC found it difficult to find space around the Warriors back line. It took MCC twenty minutes to open the scoring after senior midfielder Brandon Branscom latched on to a loose ball in the box to put MCC 1-0 ahead. Fourteen minutes later MCC doubled the score line when Junior midfielder Brandon Talley scored from a Matthew Briggs cross to take the score to 2-0. MCC went into the half with a 2-0 lead.
Second half began with just as the first half ended with MCC applying relentless pressure on the Warriors. Four minutes after the restart freshman midfielder Alex Blechle scored from a well placed shot from twenty yards out. It was Blechle's first goal of the season to take MCC to a 3-0 lead. Freshman forward Ben Williams extended MCC's lead to 4-0 with a composed finish in the box after he received a pass from Eric Hall. Branscom then got his second of the game in the sixty seventh minute to push the score to 5-0. MCC was in total command of the game when the Warriors was graciously awarded a PK after defender Matthew Jump made what seem to be a clear legal tackle to win the ball. The PK was converted to to brake MCC shot out for the game making the score line 5-1 to end the game.
Next up MCC, (2-0-1 Overall) travel to Leavenworth, KS to play University of Saint Mary on Friday, September 13. Game time is set for 3 p.m.
