The Manhattan Christian College men's basketball team went on the road on Saturday and defeated Baptist Bible College 77-69 in overtime.
In the first half MCC struggled mightily from the floor, not scoring their first points until five minutes into the first half, and with eight minutes left in the first half the Crusaders trailed 17-4. In the closing minutes of the half MCC was able to muster a little offense and closed the gap to 26-19 at halftime, despite shooting only 28% from the field.
To open the second half MCC was able to trim their deficit to 32-20, but BBC answered with a run to push the lead back to 42-32. MCC continued to fight back and a three-pointer by Sage Ruis cut the deficit to 52-51. The Crusaders were able to tie the score at 56 on three free throws by Josh Camacho (Rock Creek). Ruis knotted the game at 60 with 18 seconds left on a pair of free throws that sent the game into overtime. In the extra session MCC took the lead and never trailed, their surge was keyed by Lonnie Penner who connected on two three-pointers. Ruis led MCC with 24 points, while Penner added 21 points and Camacho chipped in with 11.
MCC is now 4-6 on the season and will be back in action on Tuesday at home as they take on Central Christian College (McPherson, KS) at 7:30pm
