The Manhattan Christian College men's basketball team picked up their fourth win of the season on Tuesday night with a 74-64 over conference foe, Barclay College.
The Crusaders were sluggish to start the game and the Bears jumped out to an early 7-2 lead. MCC subbed for their whole starting five and the bench provided a spark by keying a 12-1 run to give MCC a 14-9 lead. However MCC could never really pull away from Barclay and at the half MCC held a 33-27 lead. MCC started off strong in the second half and opened up a 41-29 lead, however Barclay would respond with a 7-0 run to cut their deficit to 41-36. That remained the pattern for the second half as MCC would pull away and Barclay would close the gap until with about five minutes left MCC went on a 9-0 run to go up 62-47. The Crusaders had their largest lead at 69-50, before a late run by the Bears produced the final margin.
Sage Ruis led MCC wtih 15 points and Matt Doerksen came off the bench to score a season high 14 points. Lonnie Penner added 13 points, while Bryce Birtell scored 11 points and pulled down 9 rebounds, and Jack Mitchell handed out 10 assists.
MCC is now 4-5 on the season and they will be back in action on the road this weekend as they to Omaha to take on Grace University on Friday night and Bellevue University on Saturday.
