The Manhattan Christian College men's basketball team picked up two wins over the weekend and with the wins the Crusaders clinched the Midwest Christian College Conference Championship. This is the eighth straight year that MCC has either won outright or shared the Conference Championship. In that eight year span MCC is 79-5 in conference play.
Friday night MCC defeated Ozark Christian College, 94-79. The Crusaders got off to a strong start and opened up a 35-22 lead. However Ozark would finish the half with a 23-8 run to take a 45-43 halftime lead. In the second half with Ozark leading 56-52 MCC went on a 16-2 run to go up 68-58. Ozark would close the gap to 72-66, but that was as close as they would get. Lonnie Penner led MCC with 19 points, Alex Hammack had 15 points, Will Chisam had 12 and Jack Mitchell had 11 points while Sage Ruis recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Saturday MCC rolled past Calvary Bible College 111-51. MCC got off to a blistering start in the first half shooting 57.6% from the field and 80% from the three-point line on their way to a 56-23 halftime lead. The second half MCC cooled off a little bit, but the Warriors were no match as all eleven players in uniform scored, led by Sage and Devin Ruis who each scored 20 points. Matt Doerksen scored 15 points, Penner chipped in with 13 points and Hammack had 11.
MCC is now 17-8 on the season and 8-0 in conference play. MCC will close out conference play on the road Tuesday night at Barclay College before returning home next Friday and Saturday for their final home games of the year.
