The Manhattan Christian College men's basketball team lost a heartbreaker at home on Tuesday night falling to Barclay College 78-77 on a tip-in at the buzzer. The Crusaders got off to a slow start and found themselves down 22-14 midway through the first half. MCC was able to rally and take a 34-33 at halftime even though they had only shot 32% from the field. In the second half after MCC took a 37-36 Barclay took the lead and didn't trail again until five seconds left in the game. Barclay stretched their lead out to as many as twelve points, and each time MCC would make a run to cut into the lead Barclay would come up with a play to keep a comfortable cushion. MCC would make their final run in the last three minutes, as they rallied from a 74-64 deficit. Key buckets by Jack Mitchell and Josh Camacho fueled the run. MCC was finally able to tie the game at 75 on a bucket by Mitchell with 22 seconds left. On the ensuing possession MCC fouled Toney Hatton who hit one of two free throws to give Barclay the 76-75 lead. Lonnie Penner got the ball for MCC and drove to the basket and hit a short shot to give MCC its first lead in about 18 minutes, but it didn't last for long. Barclay raced the ball down the floor and missed their initial shot, but Charles Brodhead tipped in the miss at the buzzer to give Barclay the victory.
MCC is now 3-6 on the season and 1-1 in conference play. The Crusaders will be back in action this weekend as they head to Springfield, Missouri to take on Baptist Bible College on Saturday.
