The MCC men's basketball team went on the road and dropped their season opener to McPherson College, 80-60. MCC got off to a strong start and led early on 10-4. The Crusaders were able to maintain the lead throughout most of the first half. However with about four minutes left in the half MCC committed an intentional foul which gave the Bulldogs two free throws and possession of the ball, McPherson converted the free throws and scored on the possession to take their first lead and they pushed that margin to 34-30 at halftime.
In the second half MCC cooled off from the field and shot only 28% from the field while McPherson warmed up and shot 45% from the field. McPherson was able to stretch the lead out and coast on to the victory. Lonnie Penner led MCC with 14 points while Bryce Birtell and Sage Ruis chipped in with 12 points each.
MCC will be back in action on Tuesday, November 5th for their home opener against Central Christian College.
