The men's basketball team went on the road Tuesday night and defeated Barclay College 72-65. MCC, Barclay and Ozark entered play Tuesday night tied atop the conference with only one loss each, so the win was big in allowing MCC to stay atop the conference standings.
Barclay jumped out to an early 10-5 lead, but behind the strong play of Josh Camacho who scored 15 first half points MCC went into halftime with a 33-29 advantage. In the second half the lead stayed between two and six points until MCC went on a run and stretched their lead to 57-42 with about nine minutes left. Sage Ruis was a key to the run as he connected on multiple three-pointers. However Barclay wasn't done, and MCC went cold offensively which allowed the Bears to close the gap to 63-60 with just under a couple of minutes to play. MCC was able to respond to the challenge as Ruis hit a key jumper and they also hit seven of eight free throws to seal the victory. Camacho led MCC with 22 points, Ruis chipped in with 21 points and Lonnie Penner added 12 points and 11 rebounds.
MCC will be back in action against Ozark Christian College on Friday at home at 7:30pm.
