Baseball Inks Six

MCC Baseball has added six players to the 2014 recruiting class.

Cameron Pickering (1B, INF): Currently lives in Colorado, but calls Canada home. He will be the first international student to play baseball at MCC. Cameron, a first baseman, will be a mainstay in the heart of the MCC lineup.

Michael Rice (C, INF): Michael is also from Colorado. He possesses strong leadership characteristics and will be an important part of the team from day one. Michael will serve as the primary backstop for the team, a role that suits him very well.

Derek Piper (SS, P): Comes to MCC from Wamego High School (KS). Derek showed great leadership on his high school team while playing shortstop and hitting at the top of the order. Has great command and velocity as a pitcher. Will be big asset to the MCC rotation

Bryan Gilbert (UTL): From Burlington, KS. Bryan is a hardworking utility player who will add depth to the MCC lineup from day one.

Chase Montgomery (2B, OF): Comes to MCC from Atchison, KS. Chase is a tremendous athlete that has the ability to play every position on the field. He lead his high school team in batting AVG and RBI. He projects as a top of the order hitter and MCC will look for him to be an instant impact player.

Justin Girton (P, UTL): Transfer from Johnson County Community College. Justin is a talented pitcher who will add stability to our core of starters. He is also a very polished fielder who will be seeing playing team in both the infield and outfield.

Coach Guinty is very proud and excited to add these six to the 2014 class and expects to see each of them step up and produce at some point in the upcoming season. Look for MCC baseball to add several more pieces to the recruiting puzzle throughout the rest of the summer.
