Kansas State University (across the street from MCC) is also home to 23,000+ college students. Manhattan is known as a college town. MCC has over 300 undergraduate students. With a student-to-faculty ratio of 16:1, the majority of classes have 24 students or fewer. MCC is concerned about your ministry. Whether your plan is to answer God's call to full-time ministry or to become a lay leader in the church, we know that kingdom work will always be part of your life. The faculty and staff at MCC know the importance of relationships and how important relating to people is for ministry. Eating lunch with students, participating in an intramural sport, and spending time with students outside the classroom provides faculty and staff the opportunity to get to know and mentor students individually. If you are undecided on a major, or you know exactly what you want to do, MCC has flexibility in our degree programs. Freshman at MCC take the same basic courses their first year. You begin by taking the same courses whether you are pursuing a ministry degree or a degree in the dual-degree program. Not being required to choose a major right away allows you to get involved with different groups and experience different ministries so that you can better decide on a major that fits your gifts and experiences. |
HOUSING: 2. Are freshman required to live on campus? 3. Adequate dormitories? 4. Fraternity & sorority housing? |
Freshmen and sophomores at MCC are required to live in the residence halls. These students account for over 50% of our student body. We also have another 10-20% of our students in college-owned apartments. The remainder live in nearby apartments or houses. MCC does not offer any fraternity or sorority housing options. FACULTY: 1. How about the student faculty ratio? Do you want the faculty to know you more than just being a student at the college? 2. Do you prefer your freshman courses taught by professors or grad students? 3. Are you concerned about faculty credentials? Such as if they have master degrees or a Ph.D. 4. Are the faculty Christians? |
The faculty at MCC are committed to excellence in the classroom and to preparing you for ministry -- no matter how you intend to earn a paycheck! The current student-to-faculty ratio is 16:1. This small class size allows for individual attention not always available to students in large institutions. MCC does not have graduate teaching assistants (GTAs) in the classroom. Our classes are taught by professors who have experience, not only in the classroom, but in ministry as well. Biblical studies and theology professors have terminal degrees in their fields as well as years of ministry experience. Our practical ministries professors have decades of experience as well as appropriate degrees. Even the professors in general studies are committed, ministry-oriented men and women. But most of all, our professors have a deep commitment to Jesus Christ. A commitment that expresses itself daily in the classroom as they strive to teach their students to 'correctly handle the Word of truth.' Many of our faculty and staff are involved in discipling upper-class students in small groups. These groups meet weekly for prayer, study, andencouragement. In these groups faculty have the opportunity to mentor and advise juniors and seniors on a very intimate level. REQUIREMENTS: 2. Are you concerned about what the 3. Are you required to take certain college prep courses? 4. Are students required to be a Christian |
Manhattan Christian College requires an application, two references, high school transcript, and incoming students must take either the ACT or the SAT. MCC requires a minimum score of 18 on the ACT (860 SAT - combined verbal and math) and a 2.0 (on a 4.0 scale) cumulative high school GPA. The average ACT score for incoming freshmen (2004) was 22, and students averaged a 3.22 GPA. MCC does not require a college prep curriculum. We do suggest college prep classes, especially in the area of English, to be prepared for college-level course work. MCC also requires students to describe their relationship with Jesus Christ to be admitted. Complete an application online here! |
COSTS: 1. Tuition and Fees? Is there a deadline for applying to the college? 2. Housing? 3. Food? Does the cafeteria serve on the weekends? 4. Books? 5. Transportation? Do you need to use a car or would a bike do? 6. Scholarships and Loans? Is there a date deadline for scholarships? 7. Work study programs? Is there any possibility that you can earn money without working? I don't think so. 8. Are there other on-campus job opportunities? |
When comparing the cost of attending college it is important to be sure that you are comparing 'apples-to-apples.' Fee structures and sliding scale tuition can make it difficult to make a fair comparison. MCC does not have an elaborate fee schedule, and tuition is flat for 12-18 hours. Another area of concern when it comes to cost is: scholarship. When a school offers a scholarship, make sure you understand the 'term' of the scholarship. Is it for one year? Four years? Will that big freshman year scholarship help your sophomore year? What are your requirements to keep the award? Grades? Community service? Both? Is the award transferable to another degree program? All these questions can make comparing costs difficult. Manhattan Christian College is a private four-year Bible college. We do not have out-of-state fees or tuition rates. MCC participates in the federal financial aid programs to help make paying for college a reality. We also offer academic, leadership, and music scholarships. Many students participate in the federal workstudy program, but on-campus jobs are often difficult to find or don't pay enough. MCC students have access to a number of good job opportunities in the immediate business community, and the college's central location makes having a car unnecessary . . . but nice. Other factors to consider when planning for college are books and living expenses. At MCC the typical freshman will spend around $300 for books per semester plus Logos Bible software. There are also weekend living expenses since the meal plan does not include weekend meals -- and don't forget the phone bill! AREA OF STUDY: (Of course it's okay if you don't know what you want to major in.) 1. Does the college have the degree program of your choice? 2. Is the degree program adequate, strong, or outstanding? 3. Does the college provide degree flexibility? Can you change your degree program more than once without loosing too many credits? |
If you are undecided, the most important issue for you will be flexibility! Can I start without knowing exactly where I want to end up? And even if I do have a plan, can I change my mind? The answer to all these concerns at MCC is "YES!" Our curriculum is designed to allow you the opportunity to find your calling in Christ, or allow a change in direction. As you experience what you are learning in the classroom and through the Christian Service program you will be able to confirm or redirect your degree program. You can move from dual-degree to Pastoral Ministry, or Family Ministry, or vise versa -- wherever you believe God is calling you to use your gifts and passions for His service.
