Occupy Walmart

November 29th, 2011

Program: Worship
So what is everyone doing you ask? Going to Walmart of course! Going to Walmart is an extremely steriotypical trip that all too many college students make, but there are several aspects for a successful Walmart trip.

First, you always have to go to Walmart with at least one thing on your list. As fun as it is to go to Walmart and come out with a couple dozen different items that you didn't plan on getting, it is a wonderful idea to go with a plan. Your wallet will thank you for the effort.

Second, take advantage of sales! Walmart runs specials all the time on items that most people never think about. I have recently purchased far too many bags of Halloween candy. Why you might ask? Because it is dirt cheap and needs to be taken advantage of.

Lastly, go with friends. A successful trip is never enjoyable without a car load of friends. It is much easier to buy that ten dollar bag of cheese sticks if you have three other friends willing to throw in some cash for the purchase. So go and take advantage of that  wonderful store that you know you are going to be at anyway. But this time, go with a plan.

Family Weekend

October 10th, 2011

Major - Youth Ministry
Hometown - Effingham, KS

Family weekend took place this past weekend. It was a great to be able to spend a weekend with them. I got to go eat out at Chili's, IHOP and Longhorn Steakhouse. (All yummy places to eat at!)  I also got to go shopping and get some new clothes and I even stayed in the hotel with them. However, the best part about the weekend was just being able to see them and spend time together. All those other things were just extra.

Not seeing my family as much has helped me realize how much of a blessing they are to me. They care a lot about me and it helps me so much. They are always open to helping me out at any time and they always are sending me stuff in the mail. They are willing to do any thing for me. This weekend helped make all this even more relevant.

Never forget about your family. They love you and will always be there for you. Don't take advantage of them either. Show them even more love and thank them constantly. Your family is very important.

I love my family!!!

Dorm Life!

It has been just about a month since school started, and it seems to have gone entirely too fast! The dorms are bussling with activity and laughter! Being at MCC is such a blessing, but living in the dorms makes it all the more exciting! I am an RA in the dorms this year, and I love it!  All of the girls in my suite are phenomenal, and I cannot wait to continue forming awesome relationships with these girls!

Every week there are a series of events that take place in Kenoyer and Johnson Hall and around campus that students participate in...

Monday...

  • Job Checks...every girl and guy on campus, even the Resident Assistant's are responsible for cleaning some part of the dorm.  Trust me, by the time 9pm on Monday and Thursday role around, you want to clean the dorms!
  • Dorm Devotions...This is when really awesome women for Kenoyer, and really awesome men in Johnson, come and talk about important things that college girls and guys need to hear!  There is also awesome worship led by students in the dorms or upperclassmen.
  • Suite Meetings...Every Monday after dorm devos, all of the girls go back to their suites for suite meetings.  Suite meetings are a time to share testimonies, talk about things that you loved or didn't love about dorm devos, and just have a time to hang out and grow closer together as a suite!  Also, living with lots of other girls can get messy...suite meetings are a time to talk about messy habits that need to change, like dirty dishes on the bathroom counter, clothes in the bathroom, hairdryers on the counter, and other things that alot of us would not think about when living on our own!

Tuesday...

  • MCC designates a specific time on Tuesday's to small groups.  As an incoming freshman, you are assigned a small group leader for your first two years at MCC.  After that, you are encouraged to become a group leader yourself!

Wednesday...

  • Intermurals are every Wednesday night.  Students form teams together and play games like ultimate frisbee, disk golf, basketball, soccer, sand volleyball, and lots more!

Thursday...

  • Chapel is every Thursday at 11am.  It's a time for the entire school to come together and worship our awesome, powerful God!  There are always different speakers to hear from every week, and mini sermon series throughout the year.
  • Job and Room checks...yes, it happens twice a week, but whoever thought of this was a genius!! The week can get crazy and cleaning is just not something we want to do when we have other things going on!  Thursday nights you clean your room and do your job!  It's not that bad, I promise!!

There are also lots of sporting events that go on throughout the year, and everyone is encouraged to go out and support our Crusaders!! It's lots of fun when the entire student body comes together to cheer on our athletic teams!!

This is just a peak into what an average week looks like for on campus students...MCC has so many opportunites to serve and get involved with our community throughout the week.

Study Cubbies

Ch-Check it out. I have been putting off homework all week, and tonight I decided to do it.  Skipped my way over to Joliffe Hall (MCC Library) and slipped in a study cubby.  At least that is what I call them.  Small rooms built for shredding homework.  No distractions, no diversions, just doin' work.  These things are magic.  SHAZAM!
