Manhattan,
Kansas, is a community that provides its approximately 40,000 residents
cultural and educational opportunities unavailable in most communities its
size, yet it has a wholesome lifestyle not found in larger cities. Kansas State University is across the street from MCC. Plane and bus
connections to all parts of the world, modern medical facilities, and numerous
shopping areas are available within walking and short-driving distance.
Several large reservoirs within a few miles of the city and provide many
opportunities for outdoor recreation. The Anderson Village, on the northwest
corner of the MCC campus houses a Christian bookstore, doctor offices, a
laundromat, and other services for the benefit of the students and the community.
On the second floor are 26 apartments.
The multi-million dollar KSU student union building with its wide range
of recreational options is available. MCC students can enjoy bowling,
pool, or a movie. It also has meeting rooms, banquet facilities
and an excellent cafeteria. Many other useful services are available there,
including a bookstore, fast food restaurants, and even banks.
The
KSU facilities of the Ahearn complex and the Peter's Recreation complex
are open to MCC students for indoor swimming, track, basketball, racquetball,
weightlifting and other sports. Many KSU athletic events can be enjoyed
by MCC students.
There are thousands of University students whom MCC students can move
among freely and to whom they can bring a Christian testimony. This is
especially true of the hundreds of foreign students from more than 50
different countries who are on the KSU campus. Students at MCC do not
live in monastic seclusion, but in the midst of a diverse and dynamic
academic community. They can become at MCC a "debtor to the wise"
of our time, while learning not to be "ashamed of the Gospel of Christ"
as they make a challenging impact on a great university center.
Every year there are many musical groups, opera productions, and ballet
companies that appear at Kansas State University. There are also art exhibits,
drama festivals, and educational movies. Each year outstanding national
and world figures in political, educational, and religious life make speaking
appearances on the campus. All these opportunities are available to MCC
students.
Manhattan Christian College students have the opportunity to attend several
worthwhile conferences. Woman's World, a convention for the spiritual
growth of today's Christian woman occurs in early spring. Guest speakers
and workshop leaders from around the world speak at the college throughout
the academic year.
The admissions department sponsors many activities throughout the year
which bring prospective students on campus. Such activities include Fall
Festival of Faith, Bible Bowl, Middle School Summit, and summer athletic
camps.
The proximity of KSU to the MCC campus enables MCC students to take
advantage of many unique opportunities. Many courses offered at KSU augment
or complement the Christian college academic offerings. For example, laboratory
science, a required subject at MCC, is taken by special arrangement at
the University. |
